Have you been to fruhlingfest?
I find it easier to attend as I'm less likely to get overstimulated! Comparing German and British (I'm British) beer festivals is interesting.
British ones are about trying a variety of beers - you can get a third of a pint so you can try as many as possible without dying - and have little to no rides etc.

The festival has always taken place in September. Oktoberfest has always been held then since the original celebration.

It's also not necessary to dress up. I'm from Munich and refuse to wear my good Sunday clothes (that's what Tracht is actually) to an event where people might throw up on me.
Just wear something comfortable and enjoy.
And be careful with the beer, you don't feel it in the beginning. Make sure you don't drink on an empty stomach. The goal is not to get drunk, it's to get tipsy 😊
