Mike The Music Snob tackles Avenged Sevenfold's latest album Life is But a Dream. A7X have certainly gone outside the box on this one, but how does this progressive metal musician like this latest sound?

You definitely get a different experiences with each A7X album you listen to. Which is more than you can say about a lot of bands today

i think there's a lot of value in a record that makes a whole community discuss about it with so much passion and so loudly. can't remember the last record realease that i enjoyed this much. and it sounds really good to me as well

The production was entirely intentional, as far as I'm aware. They wanted to go for this raw, organic sound to contrast with the electronic parts, and they wanted it to sound like humans playing and singing, flaws and all (like those slide guitar string noises in We Love You).

I personally didn't have much issue with the mix. As someone who was always kind of "meh" about A7X, this album blew me the fuck away. I really DO hope they keep experimenting in exciting new directions like this, might make me a diehard fan by the next album.

This album is so weird I adore it. It's been on rotation since it dropped

I haven’t watched the video, but I definitely love this new album.

I absolutely love this album. I love the story of how Nobody is based off M Shadows psychedelic experience. I love how Game Over is rushed, symbolic of us rushing through life. The 3 tracks (G)(O)(D) and the story that tells. The continual emotional crescendo through Cosmic.

It’s art so it’s up to everyone’s interpretation, but I have a ton of appreciation for this work.

I loved this album. I hear a lot of different musical influences on this. I hear System of a Down, Mr. Bungle, Daft Punk, Pinkly Smooth, ELO and more. I liked how it didn’t sound anything like their previous albums. Great experimentation. I was just listening to the album at the gym while benching, I found myself playing “Easier” and “Good Morning” off the album over and over again.

I've always been a fan of A7X's different sounds that tend to differ from their usual form. The Stage really was the perfect mix for me and this album really was a breath of fresh air considering the new shit coming off the radio recently. If they released this 15 years ago it would've bombed but I think modern music has dropped off so much that this really is nice to hear.

What I've always loved about A7X is their constantly changing sound each album. Never know what you are gonna get.

This is one of the best album reviews I’ve ever seen from someone who wasn’t a fan of the end product. You had nothing but constructive things to say whether they were praises or criticisms. As someone who loves every aspect of this album; I seriously appreciate your critique.

Avenged are the reason why I play guitar today. All the way back in 2012 when I heard Shepard Of Fire in the Black Ops 2 Zombies map Origins, I was hooked. They are my driving force on guitar. This album is fantastic and what I believe to a next step in their music. I love this album. The mix doesn't bother me very much and their different sounding songs are awesome. 9/10.

Personally i loved this album, and even the production didn’t felt so bad for me. I had chills all the way through, and I started listen A7X about 7 months ago so it was not a “fanboy”. I was so up on this album that I even make my best friend (who doesn’t even know what prog means, he listen to pop and rap) and he loved it. Cosmic is probably my new favorite A7X track. Hope that you will come back to this and enjoy it.

I think you nailed the point I have been saying about this album : It had a lot of great ideas stitched together very awkwardly. The best songs are the ones that stick to a couple ideas and run with it (Cosmic, Ordinary, Nobody, Mattel) while a lot of them just take an idea, use it for 10 seconds and then switch to the next idea without any flow in between (the worst offender being We Love You)

Never been much of a fan of A7X besides Nightmare and a few other songs here and there. But this album got my curiosity ever since Nobody was released and I have to say I absolutely loved it. I do understand your points tough, Mike.

I think they were trying to go for a "rough" and somewhat jarring production. I do think it gives a cool edge in tracks like mattel and we love you, but it does sound out of place in the rest of the album. Either way I really like this album becausa a band as big and mainstream as A7X is really being artistic and writing music as an artistic expression, as opposed to just a job (cough 72 seasons cough)

Best album ever. Saw them live and inspired me so much. Love how they changed and matured. People talk shit about Metallica and so now people are talking shit about this band. This is the best album ever. Very different and mature and not so much metal. It's great.
