Rhiannon - Divine Queen of the Celtic Britons: Uncovering the Lost Goddess

To think about Rhiannon is to undertake a journey. While she has a mythology around her, her origins are obscure. While she has many modern-day devotees, she is never identified as a Goddess in any of the primary source material. We have only a breadcrumb trail of clues to follow which are made up of syncretic resonances, embedded symbolism, and a mythic heritage which begs to be traced back through the Otherworldly veils of history. How then do we approach this revered Lady? How can we best know her as Goddess?

What is Paganism? A religion, a spirituality, an alternative belief system, nature worship? You can find support for all these definitions (and many more) in dictionaries, encyclopedias, and textbooks of religion, but subscribe to any one of these and the truth will evade you. Above all Paganism is a creative pursuit, an encounter with reality, an exploration of meaning and an expression of the soul. Druids, Heathens, Wiccans and others, all contribute their insights and literary riches to the Pagan tradition. Moon Books Publishing invites you to begin or to deepen your own encounter, right here, right now.

Requested this book from my university library, found this video a week later. I’m excited to read it!

“My thesis is that the language of poetic myth anciently current in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe was a magical language bound up with popular religious ceremonies in honour of the Moon-goddess, or Muse, some of them dating from the Old Stone Age, and that this remains the language of true poetry.
...Graves, the White Goddess

According to Graves, the White Goddess combines the powers of love, destructiveness, and poetic inspiration. She ruled during a matriarchal period in the distant past before she was deposed by the patriarchal gods, who represent cold reason and logic.

Beautiful visuals and very interesting, but such a shame you're reading almost without a pause

I usually really enjoy your videos but this one felt a little pointless tbh. It’s titled recovering the lost goddess yet she barely gets a mention in the whole video. Why not title the video something else? As I say a fan of your videos generally though and I love the artwork

The Britons weren’t Celtic, they are by definition, diametrically opposed terms, saying Celtic Britons is like saying Vegan Meat eaters or Black white people or tall sort person.
The use of Celtic to refer to the Britons is a slur, an insult and was used by the Germanic George I to promote Germanic supremacy over Britain in order to gaslight the English into believing their loyalties lie with the Germanic ancestors from the Anglo-Saxons than their British ancestors who were at the time trying to replace the Germanic king with a British king, the Jacobite rebellions and so they revised the history and came up with the whole Celtic nonsense as a way to justify the Germanic King to the people to get their favour and support.
The celts were not a culture or ethnicity, there is no such thing as a Celtic language.
Welsh isn’t a branch of Brythonic, it is the origin language of Brythonic, the term comes from the Welsh word Brythonig which means a person or object with the characteristics of the Brython, Brython being an appellative for the Cymry (Welsh) and when Cornish and Breton evolved out of Welsh, Brythonic was used as an umbrella term for all the languages that related to Welsh. Welsh just being the Anglo-Saxon term.
The Britons were the Brython, Briton is just the anglicised version of Brython, just like Britain is the anglicised version of Prydain which is was the native name of the lands of the Cymry (Welsh)
The term Wales being the Welsh word meaning lands of the Gâl and the Welsh named those lands of the Gâl (Wales in Welsh) Prydain.
Gâl is the diametrically opposed term from Celtiad (anglicised to Celtic)
Gâl and Celtiad both being Welsh origin words.
As the Britons (Welsh) spread down into Northern Europe, those Gâl became Gaul, Gaul comes from the word Gâl, as does Galicia and we see the remnants of this in how in many languages Wales is still known to this day as the land(s) of the Gâl, to signify that they were the origin of the Gâl, for example

Pays de Galles - French (lands of the Galles)
Gales - Portuguese
Gales - Basque
Gal-les - Catalan
Galles - Corsican
Gales - Galician
Galles - Italian
Tara Galilor - Romanian (the country of the Gal)
Gales - Spanish
Gal Ulkesi - Turkish (Country of the Gal)
Galler - Turkish

The Gâl and the Celts were enemies, completely different people who would set aside their differences to fight against the Romans who were considered a worse threat than each other was to the other and this resulted in the Gallic Wars of around 55BC
Being a Celtic was a lifestyle choice, like being a Vegan is a lifestyle choice, you could be anybody anywhere in the world and be a Celt, be from any ethnicity and be a Celt
