It actually does work in real life. I was about to be attacked by dogs in Mexico and my friend just dropped on the ground and started doing pushups then suddenly crawled towards the dogs in a crocodile position lmao dogs ran away scared.
The other time I pretended to pick up something from the ground and throw at the dogs. They also ran away

I was chased by a pack of wild hungry dogs in San Antonio back when I was about 12 (long ago) and I ended up trapped between a fence with 2 vicious dogs and the pack that wanted to eat me. I was flipping out when I grabbed an empty potato chip bag off of the ground and charged the pack with it swinging. I chased them for a block before I came to my senses and realized I didn't really want to catch them lol.

Growing up in India a few decades ago, stray dogs had this annoying habit of chasing you if you were riding a bike (or any two-wheeler, really).

At some point, after getting sufficiently pissed off, I started getting off my bike and running after them. I was athletic enough that I often caught up to them. Weird for any human passers-by, but it was fun.

Needless to say, it scared the shit out of most canines, and after a while, they learnt to steer clear of me.
