What's the reason, why as a freelancer I can't end a contract?
I would suggest asking the client to end the contract first. If the client is not responding to your messages, Upwork has given you the option to end by yourself. It has no negative impact. No worries, You can end the contract.

It is my first project on Upwork. The client made a contract of 6$ for the first milestone and I submitted work He liked it and asked me to make minor changes to his store. I did but he asked more I did that too. Then he created a 2nd milestone I did that but then he started asking me to do more work without creating any milestone or closing 2nd one. first, I did but when I asked him to create a milestone he became angry and called me incompetent and said he didn't like my work. I politely tried to convince but he was rude. I have asked him to end the contract but it's been days since he is not. What should I do?

I think you should close a contract only when the job is completed successfully.
