The “Old Town” fortress /Tvrđava 'Stari grad' Travnik

The “Old Town” fortress is one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval fortified buildings in Bosnia where historical periods left their distinctive characteristics. There are no records in so far known historiographical sources of the year and duration of construction or its builder. Historians agree that the fortress was built in the second half of the 14th or the first half of the 15th century. Regarding its construction and other indications, it is assumed that it was built by King Tvrtko II Kotromanić but historians also believe that the possible builder was King Stefan Dabiša.

Tvrđava Stari grad jedan je od najljepših i najočuvanijih fortifikacijskih objekata srednjovjekovne Bosne u kojem su naredni istorijski periodi ostavili svoja specifična obilježja. U do sada poznatim istoriografskim izvorima ne postoji podatak o godini i trajanju izgradnje, kao ni o graditelju. Historičari su saglasni da je tvrđava sagrađena u drugoj polovini 14. ili prvoj polovini 15. stoljeća. Po načinu gradnje i drugim indicijama pretpostavlja se da ju je dao sagraditi kralj Tvrtko II Kotromanić, ali historičari smatraju da je mogući graditelj i kralj Stjepan Dabiša.
