I do believe they are eating the geese. I witnessed back in 1998 a young middle eastern couple trying to catch a geese. I went with my dad to a city lake to fish. I kept hearing noises in the tall willows growing in the water. I walked over there and saw the young married couple with a back of bagels and they were baiting a huge hook with a big piece of the bagel on a fishing pole with a thick fishing line. They were casting near the geese in the willows. When they saw me they got up and left shortly after.
