Still remember watching this match for the first time and it blew my mind Jericho beat both the Rock and Stone Cold in the same night.

If Triple HGH didn't tear yet another quad, we wouldn't have had all these great moments in wrestling.

Maybe Jericho should or shouldn't have gone over on both Rock and Austin in one night, but no one can tell me that he didn't work his ass off in those matches. And if you remember, the Rock vs. Jericho match ended, and Austin came out not even 5 seconds later. So, Chris Jericho wrestled the Rock for 20 minutes and went straight into a match against Austin.

As someone who watched it live, I think the lackluster reaction to Jericho's win was because virtually everyone expected to see Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock (the BIGGEST wrestling names at the time) face off in the finals to not only see who would become the first ever undisputed champion, but to finally see the conclusion to their feud that began at WM17 earlier that year (arguably the biggest WM ever). Austin vs Jericho was just massively underwhelming in comparison.

In retrospect it should of been literally anyone BUT Jericho. Angle, Austin or Rock all would of been much better options.

And that's no disrespect to Y2J. I just don't think he was ready at this point in his career
The lackluster Mania main event with HHH kinda proved that.

Jericho deserved it. Honestly, HHH being unavailable was a great opportunity. It gave a supremely talented superstar a chance on the main stage. Jericho will always be more compelling to watch than HHH.

Shoulda been Angle. He was on fire at the time. But it worked w8th Y2J. Jericho is not just a great worker but he is also aces on the mic which is why it was able to work.

I almost wish Stone Cold would have won the undisputed title. I think that would have lead to him and Triple H headlining WrestleMania 18 and that would have been cool to see.

I liked Y2J but this was when WWE started paying way too much attention to the "smart marks". People who wanted the best workers to be World Champion like Jericho, Benoit, Eddie etc despite not understanding that being the best worker doesn't mean you deserve to be champion

I think they picked him because they couldn't make Rock and Stone Cold happy so they used the middle man to throw a monkey wrench in there. Was it the wrong guy yes but it tricked us as the fans.

To me Chris Jericho was the guy, he deserved that moment. He was definitely better than hhh.
