Kinetic Origami Style Anniversary Gift

Creating a last minute anniversary gift for my wife…JBV Creative Style

It’s crazy, but it has been a year since I married my best friend. The theme for a first year anniversary gift is (apparently) paper. Using my laser cutter, I was able to capitalize on the theme, turning a piece of cardboard into a cool Miura fold based card/kinetic art piece.

I started by using the @glowforge to score the Miura pattern into the cardstock. It took some convincing, but I was able to get the cardboard to fold in the chevron like pattern without tearing. The folding in and out of the pattern naturally created a mesmerizing motion, so I decided to work off that, using some string to pull the folds in revealing the ‘secret’ message beneath the fold.

Don’t tell my wife, but I made all this on the day of our anniversary because, well…I forgot (hehe)

Dude the small handmade things my boyfriend makes me are some of my favorite things ever. We worked at a McDonald’s together for a short while so he’d take pie boxes and turn them into different animals for me. He’s also an artist so he made me this card that was just covered in his art with like symbols, and references to us in a relationship hidden throughout, a giant poem card and several poem books from hand

I love that Miura fold pattern! I once saw a scarf that had somehow been ironed into that shape, and it was so pretty!

That's so simple and basic in a way but you don't need to do much more to make someone you love happy. A good gesture of care is usually enough.

That's awesome dude, very happy for you both. Idk if you're into origami as much as I am, but with that laser cutter you could probably pull off some crazy pieces with thicker materials than normal paper
