We assemble, paint, and weather this beautiful 1/72 scale Harkonnen Ornithopter from Dune! Made by Meng models, this snap-fit kit comes together just as nicely as Gunpla, and it's the perfect opportunity to try and show Tamiya's Weathering Master powders to make this model look like it belongs on the desert planet Arrakis!

Bought this kit for my grandson for Xmas and we've had several hours of joy from it, finding a video on it from you guys BEFORE we paint it is just a massive bonus!

The forward areas would be sandblasted to show more metal due to direction of flight and the back side of surfaces would have build up. Link the back of a car after driving a dusty road. You've done it the opposite. It's amazing work regardless.

You've come so far since some of your earlier painting and weathering attempts, this looks excellent, hanging around with Adam and Kayte has definitely paid off.

as a fellow modeller I really compliment your work and oustanding filming and enthusiasm Norm, big fan of your work

Loved this video. I really like Adam, but its certainly fun and refreshing to hear a different voice, personality, building style, etc.

I love that there’s both landing gears retracted and deployed, I wish this had retracted and deployed weapon systems as well, would’ve been 10/10 for me. Super excited, this is the first plaid model kit I’ve ordered can’t wait to paint it up and zoom it around hehe

"This is happy making" - Norm is becoming the Bob Ross of model kits and I'm here for it

I’m not a huge Dune fan but weathering stuff is so cool & interesting 🖤

Thanks, Norm, the weathering made such an amazing impact, you did a great job of it and the commentary and videography, too.

Love it. Thanks for posting this. I just ordered this kit and am weathering the Atreides Ornithopter right now. And yes, I'll be trying the Tamiya A weathering set for the first time too. Thanks for the motivation.

I had no idea they made these! I'd only seen the small ones that just seem too small, but this is a great size. I like what you've done with your one.

The kit with your weathering came out so nice. I love it.

A clay wash could be useful on something like this too. Water based, effectively paint it on, leave it to dry a bit, then wipe it off with a slightly damp sponge. As such it'll get into all the recesses, but also leaves a dusty/matt finish.

I'm also planning on using the tamiya powders for some chipping and wear and tear, as they have metallics which if you're careful with, you can pick out an edge, so it looks worn, but fairly natural.

Also want to put some smoke/oil around the moving parts and exhaust vents

Blappy here. Great stuff Norm! You should bring it to Wonderfest next year.
