Railfans Know A LOT about WAITING

Railfans know a lot about waiting.
Patience. That’s kind of the name of the game, right?
It’s also something the entire world is going to have to get used to.
Working and learning from home. Social distancing and in some cases isolation while we wait for this crisis to end.
But in challenging times like these, there’s always a silver lining – something good happening amid all the heartbreak and uncertainty.
Some of us now have more time on our hands. Time to spend “quarantined” with our families. Time to learn new skills or pursue our interests.
It’s also a time to do the things many of us always say we’re just too busy for.
In the past few weeks, it’s amazing how many people I’ve seen just enjoying being outdoors.
Walking outside. Interacting with their neighbors – from a safe distance of course.
And I know some communities have restrictions on doing this and of course you should follow whatever guidance health officials are giving.
I’ve also seen railfans out there, safely enjoying their hobby.
To me, all of that is a sign that we can get through this.
I’ve been a railfan and a YouTuber for a long time. Sure my knowledge isn’t as extensive as some, but there’s one thing I do know – our community supports one another.
Whether it’s online, from a safe social distance or in-person when things clear up.
Now more than ever we’re going to need that support. Not just for people in our hobby, but for people in other parts of our lives.
Helping our family members, helping those who are struggling through these sometimes lonely and isolating times.
And most of all doing our part to keep others and ourselves healthy.
Things will get better. We just have to be patient.
And as railfans, I think we know that being patient pays off.

This video made my day. I really connected with this video on a deep level. My girlfriend is a frontline essential worker, so we haven't seen each other in 10 months. My co-worker Steve died of COVID-19. As railfans, we sure know a lot about waiting.

Well said my good sir. This video and message is greatly needed at a time like this. I can relate as I've also been a railfan and a YouTuber for a long time. Even though I haven't been trackside in awhile, I've been at home with my family and staying safe.
