Beautiful Female Snow Leopard Irma at Twycross Zoo
The Himalaya enclosure at Twycross Zoo is home to this beautiful Snow Leopard.
The Snow Leopard is native to the High mountain ranges of Central and South Asia, including the Himalayan Region. It is listed as Vulnerable because of declining numbers. This carnivorous Cat belong to the genus Panthera and feeds on Blue Sheep, Argali, Wild Sheep, Ibex, Marmots, Pikas, Deer and other small mammals. They can bring down prey up to three times their own size and are capable of making huge leaps over ravines, they are exceptional athletes.
Irma Snow Leopard was born in 2008 has been at Twycross Zoo since 2010.
She has had 3 pair of snow leopard cubs while at Twycross Zoo with her mate Male Snow Leopard Suou, 1st Male and Female Cubs Makalu and Maya Born 2011, 2nd 2 x Males Cubs Sayan and Hari, Born 2013, 3rd 2 x Female Cubs Eva and Ceba, Born April 2017
The Snow Leopard Cubs are now living at zoos in Germany, Austria and France.
Suou Male Snow Leopard Sadly died in July 2020.
Irma has now been joined by a new Mate, Male Snow Leopard Khumbu, at The amazing Habitat Himalayan Enclosure at Twycross Zoo.
Male Snow Leopard Khumbu, Born 2026th April 2018 came to Twycross Zoo in February 2022 from The Big Cat Sanctuary, Kent UK, after settling in he has made his first public appearance at the zoo in April 2022.

Twycross Zoo is the only zoo in the UK were the 4 Great Apes species can be found in one location and one of only 2 zoos in the UK where you can see the Bonobo Ape.
Twycross Zoo is a medium to large zoo near Norton Juxta Twycross, Leicestershire. The zoo has the largest collection of monkeys and apes in the Western World, and in 2006 re-launched itself as "Twycross Zoo – The World Primate Centre". The zoo attracted 644,033 visitors in 2019.
