Who can afford to eat out anymore? Drive thru prices for a meal for my little family is the same as a week of sale priced groceries now, so I take the low road and scrounge scrounged scrounge every thing I can and then can, dehydrate, vacuum seal all I am able to. Soon Seniors like myself, will no longer be able to buy meat, eggs, oil, coffee, butter, sugar, flour, etc.

I will be the first cattle rancher to let you know that the increase of prices on beef ($10/lb ground beef in Hawai’i) does not get seen by the rancher. We are still getting paid a quarter of what we got paid per pound 10 years ago. There is no money in growing beef. This makes me so sad to see that the “middle man” is making all this happen. We have to pay for minerals for the cows and property tax to keep them in good grass but inflation doesn’t help us either. Still have to sell at market value.

Shopping the Costco / grocery sales and bulk buy are so helpful to savings and storing!. We also swap our halibut with friends who have moose and caribou to get a variety! And on your 5 cent Payday…such fun memories-My brother and I would ride our bikes to a local general store, and pick up tossed beer cans/ soda cans along the way and buy candy from the Return Can value (at the store) in Oregon as kids- Payday and Bazooka bubble gum were favorites!

Ive been using less butter and olive oil by utilizing animal fats. Such as bacon grease and schmatlz (rendered chicken fat) for frying potatoes and other applications in the kitchen.

I reduced our meat consumption by not having as many "meat and potato" meals and more casseroles, stews or soups. I save "meat and potato" meals for holidays and special occassions. And left overs get used in casserokes or soups to spread that meat out across a few meals.

Excellent report. Chocolate yum no way I’m cutting back. We have cut back on eating beef and eat more fish and chicken. My cat loves beef and I don’t deny him, he’s old and is a good family friend. Thank you for sharing

Thank you for your help in staying informed. Start where you are, do a little here and a little there. Dont be fanatical and crazy, just start storing what you can

Last week, a dozen eggs went from $1.87 too $2.78 at Aldi. They're more at Walmart. We didn't get any eggs this week, nor meat.

We are being pushed towards "processed foods" which have health implications, so it's a balance nutrition vs. health.
Also, a gal after my own heart - love garlic 💖

I always shop the sale prices for food and household goods. I don't always buy things I used to get all the time. I make my own yogurt. It seems the best sales are around the holidays. I save up. Thanks Prepped for sharing your knowledge and research.

I raise my own chicken, turkey, and beef. It is a huge savings for me not having to pay store prices. My over all feed/hay cost have not gone up in the last 5 years. I just picked up a steer from processing the first of January, I have $4.77 a pound for the entire steer. I know exactly what is in my meat when it comes to additives or chemicals going into the meat. Yes it is a lot of work and time, but it’s so well worth it. Canning and freezing is where it’s at. Thank you for a very informative video.

Hi! Love your videos! I, too, remember 5¢ Paydays. Yum! Those salty peanuts and that sweet nougat! I haven't had one in many, many years. My only suggestion besides shopping the sales as you do, is simply to consume less. The vast majority of people are overweight and many people have food-related health problems. By consuming less we would save money, help the environment and get healthier. Sounds like a win-win solution to me! All the best to you!

I just came from the grocery store, I bought 6 lbs of frozen mangos and 2lb of shrimp= $40. Thats it for frozen mangos till summer comes. Thankfully I bought 10 lbs of dried fruit and last year 40lbs of canned peaches. I use fruit everyday in my large smoothie, along with all kinds of herbs/powders, protein powder, it makes 2 meals in one jar. This smoothie is thick and tastes super good. It is a cost cutting measure for sure plus I have los 30 lbs doing this. HAPPY ME.

Buy in bulk at Price Costco, BJ’s and do vacuum storage. A pizza 🍕 shop by me has a great pie sale every Wednesday. We buy extra - vacuum store - freeze- we save big.

I love pop. Doesnt seem to go bad, so I look for sales. If I dont have any, I am fine..it isnt a daily thing, but I sure like to keep around. Since it is mostly the carbonation I am after, I often have plenty of carbonated water on hand. The kind that has a fruit essence but nothing else added. I still find great prices on that.

Cat and dog food is astronomical. That is where I spend the majority of my food budget. Because they rely on me, they will always be well fed. And fortunately we can do that. I try to keep extra on hand. Greatly considering making up smaller bags of food using mylar bags.

Thanks for all the info!

Cocoa powder. It will last, and can be used to make chocolate goodies. The trade off is your own labor (and fats).

We rarely eat out, even fast food. I cook from scratch to save money and it tastes better. I am not seeing much reduction in eggs. I get beef on sale or marked down. We eat a lot of poultry and pork. Omg olive oil was 22.00 at costco for 2 liters a couple years ago. Now it’s that price for a 1 liter bottle

Egg prices are way up in Eastern Washington. I'm hoping for sales around Easter and plan to freeze more. We don't eat out, but Hubby is a Mt dew fiend so I always look for sales.
