Sunday Chat Simplify Technology

I think everything needs to be in moderation. Since we all enjoy technology, sometimes it can creep in and take over in our lives more than it should.

Please like/thumbs up and comment as I would love to hear what you think. Please subscribe, to be updated every time I make a new video.

Thank you so much for watching…I truly do appreciate it.

I agree with you Elle. I have to take breaks from technology and when I feel stressed that is exactly what I do. At my lunch time, I often go in my office and stretch and breathe. No noise, only my own breathing. It is amazing what those few minutes will do for me the rest of the day. At the end of the work day I like to walk. That is another great stress reliever and puts me in a positive frame of mind for the rest of the evening. Hope you have a great week and I love the idea of simplifying. I have started by doing some decluttering. Love you Elle...Laura

Great ideas! I have limited my talk radio listening time in the car because although it is interesting conversation, at times it can also create unnecessary strife. I think I would benefit from a technology cut off time, a set viewing time for YouTube videos, and putting electronics in another room over night. Thank you for the suggestions!

Hi Elle. It's funny because the reason I've been MIA on YT is because I "simply had to simplify" due to family care taking. One thing I learned about myself a long time ago is that I can become overwhelmed fairly easily (my mom was the same way, esp. after menopause), so I've had to really keep things as simple as possible in the last year or so to remain sane. I call it, "chopping wood, carrying water". Doing just what needs to be done, not cluttering the mind with thinking ahead too much. Technology remains simple for me. I've never been on Facebook, I only correspond with immediate family via my smartphone, limited computer time, and in bed I do watch shows I've recorded on Tivo, but they're ALL comedies. I set a 30 minute timer on the TV and a half hour show usually takes me two nights to get through. Add in a daily walk and meditation, and that I'm in the process of getting rid of TONS of CRAP I've accumulated and simple is my middle name these days! Hope you are well. Is it cold in AZ right now? I've never seen you in a coat?

Hi Elle! There's that handsome boy, all snug and napping! I made a firm rule about no technology in bed as I have enough issues with sleep - too much or too little. My goal, for this spring when the weather gets warmer, is to take my daily walk without technology (except for the Fitbit). To just go for a walk and enjoy nature and the sounds. Hopefully I will return to cycling this year, and if so, I do not use technology (other than carry a cell for emergencies). I really enjoy those peaceful times. Great advice. Currently I'm simplifying by doing my winter purge/declutter/clean. I "spring clean" about four times a year due to the size of my household, and that time is now. Donating items is rather freeing and a blessing. I hope you are having a relaxing Sunday and that the week ahead will prove to be a blessing. Love you - Dorothy xoxo

Hi Elle! I was so glad you talked about this! After 30 years in a "conventional" job where technology was used as a tool for productivity, I am now in a "virtual" job where I use technology more than ever! I caught myself obsessing over checking email, and replacing a lifelong habit of reading before bed with one last check on the computer! I'm going to do just like you suggested. Taking breaks and returning to my beloved Kindle! Thank you again!

I totally agree I need to stop checking my phone etc :) and I'm going to allow myself to check YouTube, Facebook and emails etc only 6 times a day as opposed to 600 haha, I'm doing it at three hour intervals so 9 then 12 then 3 etc and then I plan to go to 3 times a day...it's a gradual process :) x

Such wonderful ideas, Elle! I did this a lot over the Christmas break when I had both my husband and daughter at home with me. There were days at a time that I didn't look at email, social media of any kind, or text. It was lovely! I do have to say, I felt very disconnected. So I don't think I'll ever unplug to that degree again. Everything in is why I like your approach of taking small bites of time away from technology to be fully present in whatever moment you find yourself. Have a fantastic week!! 🎀💖🎀 xoxo Lisette

I try to take at least an hour each day to "unplug" and will continue to do so this year! Happy Sunday Elle! xoxo

Such a great challenge. With my job, I am on email and the phone all day every day. When I go to bed I don't email and try to stay off my devices. I like to watch Oprah Super Soul Sunday and then go to sleep w/ that on my mind. I also won't take phone calls (unless emergency) after about 6 pm at night. It is my time w/ Rick and if it is too close to bed I get a little too keyed up. Those simple "rules" really help me. Thanks for all the awesome reminders! Happy Sunday xo

Hi Elle, You're so right as far as technology! I find that I spend way too many hours on my computer watching videos and answering comments. I forget to take breaks for myself and enjoy the little things. That's something I'm going to be working on and find a way to balance it all this year. Hope you have a wonderful week, my friend! Much love, Colleen xox :-)

That is SO true! I didn't take my phone with me when my husband and I went to have lunch the other day and it was SUCH a beautiful time <3 I loved it! Thank you for this

Great suggestions Elle, simplicity is my big goal for this year. For me I will try to limit my recreational, i.e. non work, use of the internet to 20 minutes over breakfast (usually on my own at this time) and 1 hour at night Monday to Friday.
As for the weekend

Thank you for getting us thinking!

I ditched my smartphone a year ago and bought one of those 'hood' phones.

I did that because when I had my smartphone I'd get online and check emails, read the news, watch videos ... do everything BUT my work. I had to treat myself like a child and just reduce the temptation, but still be available for emergencies.

I use my home landline and emails for 'talking.'

Thing is I can't seem to let go of my lipsticks ... or stop from buying MORE.

xoxo

I can't use my IPhone before bed, as it wires me up, but reading a book relaxes me. I'm home most of the time, but I take frequent breaks from the computer to get things done around the house, workout, and walk the dogs. I'd spend more time with the family, but I can't get them off the screens, lol. I love your jacket! Thanks for the great tips!

I'm sitting here with my laptop watching youtube and every so often I'm checking facebook, instagram and emails on my iPhone!! And then I come across your video! Doh! I'm guilty of bombarding my poor brain with too much technology! Thanks for your wonderful advice, I needed to hear it. I have a book that my wonderful son bought for me for Christmas which I still haven't read. Time to pull it out, go sit outside in the warm weather (it's summer here in Australia), relax and take a break from technology. Thanks Elle :))
