MH17 crash investigation: Ukraine had reason to close airspace before crash - TomoNews

KIEV, UKRAINE — An investigation into the Malaysia Airlines crash that killed 298 people in July 2014 concluded that the plane was shot down by a Russian-made Buk missile.
The report released by the Dutch Safety Board alleged that the Ukrainian government had sufficient reason to close the entire airspace over conflict-ridden Eastern Ukraine before the MH17 crash. Military planes were shot down in the area months before, two by long-range weapons, but authorities only restricted flying at lower altitudes.
The exact location of the missile launch is unknown, but maps in the crash report indicate it may have been fired from the rebel-led city of Snizhne, reports the Wall Street Journal.
The warhead detonated to the top left of the cockpit, breaking the plane up in the air at 33,000 feet. Three crew members in the front of the aircraft died instantly due to the impact of the blast and shrapnel penetrating the aircraft.
CNN reports that passengers likely lost consciousness after being exposed to extreme factors such as decompression, low oxygen levels, extreme cold, and strong airflow, though some may have remained awake. Objects would have been flying around the cabin as the plane descended tail-first. It hit the ground about 90 seconds later, crashing near Donetsk and killing all onboard, scattering debris over a 50-square-kilometre area.
According to Reuters, a separate criminal probe led by the Netherlands, with participation by Malaysia, Australia, Ukraine, and Belgium, is underway to investigate who is liable for the incident.
