This works perfectly as long as nobody is looking through file explorer. More of a party trick than a security measure, but I still love it.

Important to use the numeric keypad (on right) to enter 255 and not the number keys at the top

you can also use instead of 255 "⠀"(yes you can copy that)

Mine title still says New Folder. I'm missing some step.
Update: I watched another video that explains it much better. Alt 255 is the ascii number for ‘space’ and like typing a space. Highlight the letters or rename to alt255. It leaves a space as the name, which you normally can’t do because windows won’t take it. After you have renamed it space, just added the icon to blank and it works.

I like a clean desktop so put everything in a folder. This would improve it that bit more :D

It didn't make it invisible for me, it just turned it into a black square.

Doesn’t work for me, followed exactly the instructions, including the RIGHT INSTRUCTIONS to let go of ALT before hitting Enter, but I keep getting a black space with the folder icon still visible 😮 I’m using Win10 pro. Any ideas?

It works but after a reboot the icon turns into black and i have to rechange it

Doesn't work on windows 11. Followed instructions step by step and all I get is a black box with "new folder" underneath.
Any thoughts?

One clarification is that the alt 255 is an invisible character so if you want multiple folders you have to type 2 invisible character and remember that you can use "space" to mix it up.

Personal I use this for my normal icons because I think that icon titles look ugly.

I tried all 4 of invisible icons and still getting a black square instead also tried to mark as hidden, unmark, go to file manager and uncheck show hidden, but nothing helped so far

Will it be difficult to find the folder, when for no reason at all, windows decides to rearrange all your desktop icons? This rearrangement happens to me occasionally.
