I work for a property management so I've had the pleasure of creatively breaking into places for the last 15 years and I've tried my hand at lock picking and I'm not great, but bump keys can be pretty effective. Picking and bumping will work on most residential and average security locks. If you rent, chances are your landlord didn't bother spending very much on your lock and it can be opened quite easily. This method also works really well on padlocks as well.
