We are embarking on a new project (Fall of 2022) to landscape our curb-area with native plants. While we are encouraging native plants throughout all of our property, this area is different. We are not only removing invasives to restore what is already there, we are developing a landscaping plan where we will be adding native plants in a more traditional, structured landscape. This video introduces the project area, including what parameters we are working with to develop a planting plan. Many Native Landscape projects involve the conversion of lawn or non-native foundation planting. We are fortunate to have on our site some existing native plants that we will identify and work with. Future videos will explain the site evaluation process, clearing, design, planting, and maintenance. Along the way we hope viewers will share their suggestions to our project.

Oak Haven is a 60-acre private woodland in Southwestern Ohio near Cincinnati. Jim and Julie Varick both have degrees in Botany and over thirty years of experience in managing natural areas. They enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for the natural world and would like to build relationships with like-minded people to share knowledge and resources.

I'm very interested to see how this goes. It would be a great "advertisement" for everyone passing-by how beautiful a native landscape can be. :)

I love what you are doing . I am trying to do the same thing on theee different lots! Pulling privet, and Asian bush and vine honeysuckle, Boston ivy, oriental bittersweet, Asian pear trees, e.t.c. Started working on it in 2020. Planting natives in my yard. But on the other lots hoping removing invasives helps natives to grow. I LOVE blackhaw!!

Definitely looking forward to this series. My goal for the next 2 years is something similar for about 200ft of street front we have at the back of our property so I am sure there will be a lot for me to learn.
