The prime minister will take part in a virtual meeting of the G7 leaders tomorrow to discuss the crisis in Afghanistan.

Boris Johnson is expected to press the US President Joe Biden to delay the withdrawal of troops, and what happens tomorrow could tell us something about the current closeness of the special relationship.

But as leaders talk here Afghan interpreters have held a protest pleading for the government to help them get family and friends out of the country.

The British normally don't snipe back at the Americans or make any criticism of them. It's so strange hearing the Government speaking out.

How to retreat.
Step One: Evacuate civilians.
Step Two: Destroy supplies and equipment.
Step Three: Withdraw troops.

How Biden did it.
Step One: Withdraw troops.
Step Two: Go on vacation.
Step Three: Make a confused speech.
Step Four: Go back on vacation.
Step Five: Take a nap.
Step Six: Crawl into the basement.
Step Seven: Blame everybody else.
Step Eight: Do nothing to correct the mistake of implementing step three as step one.

“I think on Tuesday, I’m not certain”

I think that sentence alone tells you Biden doesn’t care.

Whilst I'm no militarist, it does make you wonder, when the whole military might of the UK can't even secure an airport from the Taliban.

My question is how many are they bringing in, the whole country

I don't think the Taliban want to delay the departure. In 1846 when the British were defeated for the first time (now 3 times) in Afghanistan, they allowed one soldier to leave with his life. These guys are serious

Awful 100 year history but lets blame someone who's been in power for 5 mins! 🙄

after the Taliban just said this is a red line for them? Why would you want to escalate, it's going OK under the circumstances, if people who have no business at the airport weren't coming there, evac would have been completed by now. Just how many soldiers are left, there weren't that many to begin with, what's taking so long?

Certainly not Johnson’s first awkward situation following a delayed withdrawal 👶👶👶 😉

I've always thought that Europe should have it's only collective military.

Just what they want. Leave troops behind, they are attacked; restart the whole war. The Tali have already said they will not tolerate any remaining forces. It's all a big Show.

Given their well-documented campaign to evade transparency and accountability, the contention by the British government that now too much time has passed for effective prosecution is the height of arrogance.

after three failed invasions of Afghanistan, Britain is hardly in position to be giving advice.
