This scene is the key to understand why art HAS to differ in some ways from reality to emphatise stories.

this scene seems so much slower than the original. there's no sense of danger it just looks like a bunch of wildebeest are going out for a jog

I remember watching this scene, after Simba's scream at the end everyone was silent. Then one guy said "well that sucked" to which everyone laughed. A cinema full of people in their late 20s or early 30s reminiscing their childhood and they collectively agreed this live action sucked.

Wow. They managed to remove every single emotion from that scene. The most emotion-loaded scene of the whole 1994 movie.
Seriously.
What's wrong with Disney ???

😂 Mufasa seemed so unconcerned with what Scar just told him than he was in the 1994 version. Scar sounded more concerned than he did!

i remember hearing that while the music is still great and definitely amped, it just doesnt hold the same weight because it reveals beforehand that mufasa is going to die before the moment with scar. The music already feels like the fall of a king because the notes just go that way.
Man the whole reason why the original was so memorable because almost no kid actually expected mufasa to die.

Wildebeest in original: "LEG IT BOYS, SOMEONE'S TRYIN TO EAT US!"

Wildbeest in remake: "Chop chop lads, off for the morning jog."

For me. The remake pales to the original in almost every way. But that score switch when Mufasa jumps into the stampede? Goated

This scene is kinda cool, but there is literally zero emotion in it.

Hey, not many people like the remake but we all can agree on one thing, Hanz Zimmer can still execute an amazingly heartbreaking emotional piece of music. Also 1:22 is the only scene in this remake that is actually pretty good, I got so anxious with that shot

4:28 — This will forever be the most unintentionally hilarious sequence of scenes I've seen in a long time.

“I’m coming Simba, hold on.” 😐

It’s like they didn’t want any emotion shown in this movie.

If you listen closely, you can hear that they took Mufasa's "Hold on!" from the original

Even though pretty much everyone knew what was gonna happen, they were still hoping that Mufasa would somehow survive

Watched both the original and this version's scene back to back. Here's my take on it.

The original still makes me cry to this day. It's such a powerful, emotional scene thanks to how the music is used to not only compliment the scene but also explain the emotions of the characters through music. There's no topping how the music was used in the original, but there are certain moments that I think still tap into the original idea. The music sounds a little more triumphant as Mufasa is scaling the cliff. Mufasa feeling glad that Simba's been taken to safety maybe? I like how the music in the canyon sounds, though it's not nearly as good as the heart pumping sound that the original had.

There's a couple of elements that I found distracting. Consider Scar's plan is to discreetly kill Mufasa and Simba. He doesn't want the whole tribe to know that he's the one who orchestrated the murder. So in the original while Zazu's panicking, Scar knocks him out specifically when he says he'll go and get the tribe. You can see the cogs in Scar's brain working as he listens to Zazu and realizes that Zazu could ruin everything for him! In the remake, it's Scar who asks Zazu to summon the rest of the tribe! What? That completely defeats the purpose of Scar's plan and makes things a whole lot harder for him! Since now he'd have to explain why he was at the gorge at the time of Mufasa's death and did nothing to help him. It works a lot better in the original, where Scar's acting quickly to clean up loose ends so his plan doesn't fail.

The remake scene also paradoxically feels faster and slower at the same time? In the original, Zazu and Mufasa are chatting about the odd commotion in the gorge ("Sire, it appears the wildebeests are on the move" "Odd...") and that's when Scar shows up and informs Mufasa about the stampede. It allows the viewer to have a bit to breathe in the otherwise intense scene before ramping up on the emotion again. The scene feels more intense in the original because of the camerawork. Notice how most of the shots are low to the ground when Simba's in the gorge in the original and that's just not the case in the remake. There's a creative reason for it (emphasizing how afraid and small Simba feels in this moment), but it's also to get the viewer that much closer to the action, making the Wildebeest that much more intimidating. The camera in the original puts you at the same vantage point as Simba essentially. Being fair, there's one added scene that I liked where Simba is huddled under a groove in the terrain and that did have the same feeling as the original's camera shots.
