To everyone who’s saying the drone is “cheating” please understand that I would catch these fish either way, I’m simply doing it for YOUR entertainment and to show how these beasts hunt! I actually catch less fish when I’m using the drone, I spook so many flathead while looking at my screen, they are also harder to spot then you’d think and when you do spot them a lot of the time they get spooked in the process.

Great stuff Nev. I've been fishing for fifty years and I must say its one of the best things Ive ever seen. Its interesting how the Flattie sees the lure and then quickly jumps forward to an ambush spot and then hits. Truly epic stuff mate.

Nearly 40 years ago I was a young bloke that pretty much killed everything he caught. Then one day I caught my first flathead on an original Mr Twister double tail. Soft tailed jigs were a bit new back then. I recall it vividly. It was where Loder's Ck empties into the Broadwater on the Gold Coast. It was my first lure caught salt water fish and I worked hard for it. I didn't let it go, but while I was cleaning it something clicked. Suddenly I understood my dad's fly fishing mate from my childhood who would hike through blackeberries and bracken to catch a brown trout so he could let it go. No photos back then because the image is stored in your head and only seen by the person it is most important to. Rex Hunt was busy kissing fish on TV and letting them go and I understood. Long before the size slot for flatties was introduced I caught my PB's (yes both) on the same day. An 87 followed by a 92 in the mouth of Tingalpa Ck trolled on a hard body Yo Zuri minnow. I was well chuffed. The bloke baitfishing on the bank shook his head as I lowered the first one gently back into the water. 20 mins later I did it again. Love your work Nev.
