I'm talking to a guy friend, we're saying goodbye, he leans in to give me ... A Frontal Hug. I'm alarmed, but he keeps getting closer and closer! Finally I blurt out, "I need some vegan cheese!" He stops confused. I take his hand and shake it before walking away, sighing with relief.

'"I'm not being sarcastic.' [Pause]" This might be the funniest moment in Blimey Cow history.

Hugs actually come from mothers raising their children: they are often held as a baby and want to be held as a child. As they grow older, hugging is a way of showing you're part of the same "family." It's a sign of trust in a way that a child trust their parents for things like wisdom, help, healing, and their basic needs. Hugs are SO important that if a baby is never touched in the first few months, their brain shuts down and the baby dies. Hugs regulate one's heartbeat to reduce pain, stress, depression, and stimulates their immune system to fight off sickness (but only if they hug long enough). Hugs protect people from suicidal thoughts, loneliness, and gives them a reason to keep coming back. The Bible says that the world will know Him by our love for one another, and it tells us ways to show that: one being embracing one another (like a father receiving his long lost son). The biggest reason why visitors leave the church is because they feel like nobody cares about them - does a hug or saying "someone you never met cares about you" make you feel more loved? Jesus always helped and loved people before he taught or ministered to them.

Being neglected, abandoned, or abused physically makes one clingy but very cautious of hugging. Even if they WANT to hug someone, they may not have someone they trust. Even if they did, they don't want to scare people away. Even the most bubbly or caring person may not have someone in their life like that. This is especially true for people who seem very quiet, apathetic, "creepy", or troubled. I promise you that Jesus loves them as much as you, yet they go many days of their life feeling very unloved. What really breaks my heart, is hearing about 10-year olds committing suicide. Someone at that age should never feel alone. So I say let's do something about it: one day or conversation isn't enough to stop depression, be open and let people know you'll be a friend, or just talk to them anyway. I had someone who would occasionally just talk about life or ask me to hang out because she knows what it's like not to have anyone who cares.

Anyways, if this speaks to you, just pray that God would soften your heart to people in need and that they would know Him.

You can only give someone a FF hug once you have been married for at least 50 years

"You have betrayed the implicit agreement." I love this! That's probably what I'm going to be thinking new in these types of situations.

So many things humans do naturally are weird...
“Oh you want to say a greeting? Hold up your arm with hand displayed to show me you have no weapon.”
“Oh you want to congratulate someone? Hit their hand with yours to make a loud noise.”
“You want to do that last thing but quieter? Punch their fist instead.”
