avoid cats they dont need humans to live freely in the wild- NEAR allow them into your house- if they come to the door at lunch time, just give them a morsel and they will keep mice and other pests from entering your abode unlss you give them "cat food"out of a can and the become lazy and unhealthy and wont keep those pests away.
