This week on SUNUP we kick off OSU Research Week with a look at some of the ways DASNR research is helping Oklahomans on a daily basis.
- We start with Justin Talley’s research into patch burning to control horn flies on cattle.
- In Cow-Calf Corner, Glenn Selk has advice for getting the first few breaths into a calf, following birth.
- Then, Dave Lalman talks about studies on breeding cattle for maximum feed efficiency.
- Derrell Peel explains the research the agricultural economics department conducts on cattle markets and how it impacts Oklahoma ranchers.
- In the Mesonet weather report, Wes Lee explains how wet conditions in the fall and dry conditions across western Oklahoma are increasing fire dangers in that part of the state. Gary McManus says although parts of western Oklahoma and the panhandle are dry, there is a higher than average possibility for rain next week.
- Kim Anderson says the predicted price rally for wheat has been delayed, possibly until harvest, even though Russia is running out of wheat.
- Finally, we revisit a story highlighting Rod Will and Chris Zou’s research on how Eastern redcedar and other ground cover can impact watersheds.
Join us for SUNUP:
Saturday at 7:30 a.m.
Sunday at 6 a.m. on OETA-TV
