For years EMG has created custom red pickup caps just for Gary Holt, now, thanks to him, the Red Series EMG pickups are available to the public. The GH set includes an EMG 81 in the bridge and an EMG 89R in the neck position. The 81 provides all the crunch and tight sustain Gary needs. The 89R plays double duty as a humbucker and a single coil with its own preamp and coil for true single coil tones with no hum. The GH Set gives players multiple tonal options that scream to be played.

I don't know who Gary Holt is musically, but I'm delighted that the vid showed how he likes what EMG pickup; to be controlled by a specifically positioned Volume potentiometer. These are the facts, fan's of the musician crave. I'm sure we collectively desire more of that content, since we all emulate our heroes until we find our personal sound. Even then, it's good for posterity sake when any of us want to jam to a favorite tune. I would own a pedal for a favorite song to session with, so long as it's top 5-10.

EMG's are the easiest things to install in a guitar, literally on the level of changing strings, but I just like listening to someone talking about it while working on it

Cool install but I feel the most important step is missing. Pickup height is very important. What is the optimal measurement between hi E and low E when the string is pressed down at the highest fret for these PUs?
