Odradek Records is a democratic classical cooperative, non-profit and artist-controlled label, organized to separate music-making from markets. A&R is decided by roster members directly, democratically evaluating anonymously submitted demos. Our goal is to create a system of meritocratic evaluation analogous to the scientific peer review process, that is both fair and produces credible and artistically strong albums with real cultural relevance, which respond to the public's expectations of justice while cutting through their marketing fatigue. The result so far has been an eclectic group of artists, united by excellent musicianship and an adventurous approach to repertoire, creating albums that speak for themselves musically. Within months of launching, one title received the BBC Music Magazine Newcomer of the Year Award, and the roster now boasts 25 artists from 13 different countries, and has programmed yearly festivals featuring the artists in 8 cities of Italy and Spain. We are mainly pianists so far, but have one symphony orchestra, one medieval-instrument ensemble, one modern ensemble, a piano trio, violinist, cellist, and guitarist, all in the process of making their CDs with us.

TRIO APPASSIONATA

Lydia Chernicoff, violin
Andrea Casarrubios, cello
Ronaldo Rolim, piano

Praised for its communicative power, engaging performances, and the ability to bring audiences from different cultures together through music, Trio Appassionata was formed at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in 2007. Coming from three distinct backgrounds, its members have been awarded numerous scholarships and prizes at competitions around the globe.
In 2013, Trio Appassionata joined the artist roster of Odradek Records, a non-profit, artist controlled label. The ensemble's first CD, gone into night are all the eyes, features piano trios by American composers, including a commissioned work by Peabody alumnus Thomas Kotcheff. This new piece and the recording project as a whole were made possible thanks to a grant awarded by the Presser Foundation. The CD will be released in the Fall of 2014.

The members of Trio Appassionata are highly committed to bringing music to new audiences in a variety of ways. As artists-in-residence at Chamber Music Sedona (2012), the ensemble performed in a range of venues both formal and informal, including outreach programs in public schools and concerts in libraries and churches.

The trio has performed extensively throughout North America at such venues as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Freer Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, and Bard College. In December 2013, Trio Appassionata toured Europe as a part of the Project Odradek International Music Festival, which included performances in Madrid, Salamanca, and Pescara. The trio will return to Europe in the Fall of 2014 for recitals, including a performance of the complete repertoire from its debut album at the London Festival of American Music in St. James Theatre. Additional engagements will take them to other concert halls in the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy.

Trio Appassionata has been guided by some of today's most eminent chamber musicians including Michael Kannen, Allison Wells, Violaine Melançon, Marian Hahn, and Yellow Barn Artistic Director Seth Knopp. The trio has also performed in masterclasses for renowned ensembles such as the Miró, Orion and Brentano Quartets.

Beautifully played. The title of the video is a tiny bit misleading though, as there are 5 pieces in the set... thanks anyway, lovely performance.
