Garrulous, thanks to your Colors DS and Advance 2 videos, I strived to top you in every which way. Unlocking amy and collecting the emeralds with her in advance 2, and then getting every redstar ring in colors DS. as for the cherry on top, I S ranked every boss, mission, level, and special stage. and it only took 4 days of gameplay. I did this just to prove that I'm like the pizza hut. you can't outpizza me. stay safe out there G

Best way to play this game is still on Saturn where there's an INCREDIBLY low draw distance so you can only win if you memorize the tracks bc you can't see far enough ahead to plan a route. Absolutely ideal.

Sonic R is a game I really like with no shame. I have the Gems Collection on PS2, and love booting up the game, bopping my head to the music and getting 100% typically in around half an hour. I was well chuffed when I finally evolved to being able to get all the tokens and emeralds in one run of every track (yes, including Reactive Factory)

Just a quick correction, you can actually get 2nd or 3rd when collecting the coins and you’ll still get a chance to unlock the character

Sonic R and the rest of the Sega Saturn regects are some of my favorite Sonic games of all time and nostalgia isnt the only reason. I'm so happy this era is getting the love it deserves nowadays

10:08 I think Sonic R being so short and small in scope is part of what drives that nigh addictiveness it imbues. You always come back wanting a little bit more, and step away feeling like you're missing out on some extra content. The game could seriously use _an actual sequel_ or at least an expansion pack. The game is simply too fun and charming for its aforementioned limited scope.
P.S. I made it to the end of the video. It feels good to be in 'the secret club', but not as good as the 'club of gamers who actually hold Sonic R in high regard'.
P.P.S. Eggman is actually worse than Amy Rose since his ability is pretty harmless (it cuts momentum a little but it also scootches the target a head roughly enough to counterbalance that difference, making it only kind of useful *maybe* if/when you strike at a particularly sharp turn) and doesn't even give him a boost of speed. I think Egg Robo might be vaguely faster than Eggman, but I was never too sure. But either way, I always had an easier time winning races with Amy Rose than either Eggman or Egg Robo.

I've played Sonic R for the first time about a year and a half ago and honestly it's a game I really have a fondness for! Even though Reactive Factory was challenging to get the emeralds in because Metal Sonic just wouldn't let me win. Sonic Riders my be my favorite Sonic game but R has a place in my heart

Glad to see you appreciate this game as much as I do, this is unironically my favorite Sonic racing game.

Edit: Eggrobo is probably worse to play as than Amy. He can't jump, and he slows down to the point of sinking when moving over water (Whereas Amy doesn't sink) and Amy's boost can be more useful than Eggrobo's gun which doesn't actually do much.
I've also beaten Super Sonic on Radiant Emerald with Tails Doll before.

I actually liked sonic R as a kid. I have the nostalgia bias, so my review can be summed up in a few words: It was just ok.

I think someone at either SEGA or Travelers Tales had a screw loose when they brought the Tails Doll into existence.

The character itself just sorta... floats creepily along the paths, one of the official artwork/renders is just the Tails Doll floating above a checkerboard floor with only a spotlight above it, it's "theme" is 'Can You Feel The Sunshine' despite the fact it's not unlocked in isn't *Resort Island* but rather *Radical City* and it has several creepypastas related to either the game itself or the non-canon backstory about the Tails Doll being a demon of some kind.

I have to agree with Tails (dialogue is from the comics), why the fuckles did Sonic and Knuckles get proper robotic doubles but Tails got that... *thing?!*
