The continuing saga of the Definitive Technology PowerField SuperCube Trinity 2000Watt Subwoofer Part 4 that I thought was repaired (again). It is so close. At least it did not do any damage to the output FETs. Original schematics at the end!

Resistor looks like brown brown silver gold to me, so 1 1 x0.01 5%

All big red capacitors ok ? I’ve had a few funny in a certain vestel power supply which would cause weird blow ups. After a few hours.

Red, Brown, Silver, Gold? .21 ohms. Could the red turned an orange color because of the heat?

0R33 looks about right for that resistor, orange orange, second one faded the same as first, then silver and gold. So 0R33 5W non flaming 5% resistor, which has been well cooked in operation, but not enough to melt the resistive element wound under the grey ceramic. Probably worth changing to a 10W resistor, and placing the thermistor, likely there as a potential divider with the input to control peak volume, and shrink that together, or just use a fibreglass sleeve to hold them together instead, in the fill of the boat. But yes that 2kW is a fake rating, likely the actual output is around 300W in reality, the 2kW is from the peak supply voltage, around 150V per rail, into the 20R resistor load, with output FETs dead short, for a single mains cycle. Till the fuses blow, or the input bridge rectifier, which is probably only a 10A unit, as the fets are likely long cooked.

🐨I found out if you don't request a matched set of Fets or same batch from your supplier, one of the fets if they're
*NOT* close to each other will have one or both heat up and fail within hours of test running, When testing a
Class D amplifier on assembling one or a repair of it, if the set don't get hot or work for 12 hours just under full
power with both fets only warm the repair is a success, BUT if one of them is hotter though the repair will be
Sub-Par and thus require a better matched set from another batch all manufactured at the same time.

I always request two matched "Three matched Fets" if they're cheap so that I can match them closer to each
other myself.

Is there an NTC on the heat sink anywhere? Page 7 shows an NTC labeled R5 and notes to "place on ground FET" and it is on the mute circuit. Being on the mute circuit matches your condition when you cool it and the audio comes back. Could there have been a modification to monitor current via the heating of that resistor, instead of an NTC on the heat sink? It still doesn't give a value for the actual resistor though, but the part number for the NTC is a small glass NTC that resembles your R5 / F4 component. But, that's all I can see on the prints and without the amp in front of me, hard to track it down. Where does the other end of the 4 pin connector connect too? Can you follow that wire to a known component? Page 7 also shows the placement of the NTC, but shows it mounted 6mm off the PCB, with sleeving. Which, also sounds like the little blanket it has. So trace that path back and see if that resistor is in series with one of the FETs. The value may be there.

BTW in regards to the Resistor Thermistor combination I am pretty sure it would have to be under a 1/3rd of an ohm "Perhaps even down to a 1/4 of an ohm" or less, seeing the amplifier outputs 2 Kilowatts.

Good effort, I really enjoy learning from your video's! Thank you for continuing to produce these most excellent videos!

I've been down that road trying to identify unknown resistors. I never understood why some resistors don't use the standard color code.

Interesting that the schematic doesn't show that resistor! Wonder what gives there.

How did you get schematic diagram ?? i have definitive technology sub pro 1000 i, m looking for schematic but i didn, t find ...please can you help me go find the schematic?

Did you check the capacitors on the speaker output (the ones that go to ground to filter the high frequencys from the pwn output, or did you replace them for non ideal ones.
Yes im jibbering lol.
