The $99 Obsidian 3D Printer // Kickstarter Pre-Review

Another Kickstarter printer that never happened... I'll take this as a lesson, so should you. Kickstarter is not a pre-order!!!

Kodama, makers of the praised Trinus 3D printer are hoping to bring high quality 3D printing to the masses for a fraction of the price. I got to play around with a prototype for a couple of days and, well, just check out the results yourself!

Guess what *JUST* got delivered? :) Great video dude, cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Does anyone else think it's misleading that the one he's showing is the version that costs $250 on kickstarter and that the company said would cost even more when it enters the market, but he's still referring to it as a $99 3d printer (even though the $99 one has none of the features)

I never really thought that 3d printers would really be a thing for me, but your videos make me so exited to do it myself! Now with these cheap printers maybe i'll be buying one of them to try some things. I'm starting to get some tools atm for a little woodworking shop and then sell my products. And to combine that with 3d printing is just awesome!
Thanks Devin for making awesome and creative videos :)

I found this a while ago but hesitated because I was worried it wouldn't be as good as other printers on the market. Thanks for the review.

to be fair. it is NOT a $99 printer. If I sell you my CR10 for $99 that does not make it a $99 printer. its still a $400 printer. You just got it for $99. Same with this printer. whatever the final retail price is "THAT" is the price of the printer.

still pretty nice though.

If the shell for the one in the video is injection molded, I vote to have an option for one that is clear or transparent so we can see all the internals, it might inspire kids. ☺ who's with me?

3 YEARS overdue of this project!!! Take my advice, never support a Kickstarter project, this printer was a scam !! I lost my money supporting this think

But you didn't review the $99 printer, you reviewed the upgrade.

Nice job covering that huge defect with your hand. Professional photographers would be proud.

The basic one wont have the injection molded plastic? So its just a bunch of hardware strapped together?

The print quality to me is the defining and impressive feature for this printer in this price range. A true rival for the Monoprice mini which sets the bar for the complete out of box to printing experience for newbies. Kodama could potentially become the champ for this market. However, after getting a few folks started with 3D printing by loaning my Monoprice mini to them, they quickly outgrow the limited 120 mm cubed build volume and look to larger build volume printers for their first 3D printer purchase. I hope the Kodama team will follow up with a larger print volume printer that carries on the print quality heritage (rival the Ultimaker with a much lower price point) to give folks an upgrade path if they start with the Obsidian.

Hi Devon!
Not sure if you still are doing 3D Pen reviews at all but the Polaroid Play just came out over here in the Uk. If you can could you do a review on it please? Xx

I'm glad that this company is ACTUALLY sending out prototypes, so we know they will actually send them out, unlike other printers *cough* Tiko3d *cough*
