Herping σε Ωραιόκαστρο και Πλατανάκια Νοέμβριος 2022 - στικτή νεροχελώνα, ασπόνδυλα κι άλλα

Herping at areas around Thessaloniki, Greece, October and November 2022. The first excursion happened at Oreokastro on October 22, and we were me and Vasilis. The weather was nice, the trees were dropping their leaves and most of the birds had left. Sadly the first animal was a roadkill hatchling cat snake (Telescopus fallax) The animals were very few, mostly invertebrates including a large banded centipede (Scolopendra cingulata), the millipedes Pachyiulus flavipes, P. cattarensis, Megaphyllum unilineatum, and another species, and plenty of insects. The same dead female Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni) was at the same place, and later we found a dead male T. hermanni at the foot of a slope, probably transported there by water. A few frogs and lizards escaped, and treefrogs (Hyla arborea) could be heard calling. The kermes oaks (Quercus coccifera) had their acorns, Feral coton was growing in a few places and the ssignature wild pear (Pirus spinosa) was full of ripe fruit, but of course they were still quite sour. The second excursion happened at Platanakia region on November 5, with a larger group of Brigita and two herpers from Corfou. At the main bridge, the Balkan pond turtles (Mauremys rivulata) were fewer compared to warmer months. Along the dry stream, we found little wood scorpion (Euscorpius solegladi) and leopard slug (Limax conemenosi). The banks of the large stream were full of feral tomatoes and hops (Humulus lupulus) had its fragrant fruit. Under dead reeds in shallow water, we found a female European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), which had many digits missing and an old crack at the posterior of the carapace. She was a recapture since April, when the same animal with the same injuries was found.

Herping σε περιοχές γύρω από τη Θεσσαλονίκη, Οκτώβριος και Νοέμβριος 2022. Η πρώτη εξόρμηση έγινε στο Ωραιόκαστρο στις 22 Οκτωβρίου, και η μικρή ομάδα ήταν εγώ κι ο Βασίλης. Τα ζώα ελάχιστα, κυρίως ασπόνδυλα όπως μια μεγάλη σαρανταποδαρούσα (Scolopendra cingulata), οι χιλιοποδαρούσες Pachyiulus flavipes, P. cattarensis, Megaphyllum unilineatum κι ένα άλο είδος, και πολλά έντομα. Η ίδια νεκρή θηλυκή χελώνα (Testudo hermanni) ήταν στο ίδιο σημείο, κι αργότερα βρήκαμε ένα νεκρό αρσενικό T. hermanni στη βάση μιας πλαγιάς, το οποίο μάλλον μεταφέρθηκε εκεί με το νερό. Λίγα βατράχια και σαύρες έφυγαν, και οι δεντροβάτραχοι (Hyla arborea) ακούγονται που κοάζουν. Τα πουρνάρια (Quercus coccifera) έχουν τα βελανίδια τους, βαμβάκι ξέφυγε σε λίγες περιοχές και η γκορτζιά σήμα κατατεθέν (Pirus spinosa) ήταν φορτωμένη με ώριμους καρπούς, οι οποίοι φυσικά πάλι ήταν ξινοί. Η δεύτερη εξόρμηση έγινε στα Πλατανάκια στις 5 Νοεμβρίου, με μια μεγαλύτερη ομάδα με τη Μπριγκίτα και δύο χέρπερ από την Κέρκυρα. Στην κύρια γέφυρα, οι γραμμωτές νεροχελώνες (Mauremys rivulata) ήταν λιγότερες σε σχέση με τους θερμότερους μήνες. Στο ξερό ρυάκι, βρήκαμε μαύρο σκορπιό (Euscorpius solegladi) και μεγάλο γυμνοσάλιαγκα (Limax conemenosi). Οι όχθες του μεγάλου ρυακιού ήταν γεμάτες με ντοματιές που ξέφυγαν και ο λυκίσκος (Humulus lupulus) είχε τους μοσχομυριστούς καρπούς του. Κάτω από νεκρά καλάμια και σε ρηχό νερό, βρήκαμε μια θηλυκή στικτή νεροχελώνα (Emys orbicularis), η οποία είχε αρκετά κομμένα δάχτυλα κι ένα παλιό σπάσιμο στο πίσω μέρος του ραχιαίου θυραιού. Ήταν επανεύρεση από τον Απρίλιο, οπότε είχαμε βρει το ίδιο ζώο με τα ίδια τραύματα.
