An American volunteer spent time in a Maasai mud hut with Maasai women sharing (through a translator) their lives. They build their homes, garden for food, and raise the children. The homes are built close to others, and they rely on one another. The men are nomadic, herding goats, cows, etc. These men have multiple wives along their herding landscapes. The women were unhappy about this custom, but it was accepted as the way things were. Sons follow in their fathers' footsteps to become herders. The daughters often marry young and continue living as their mothers had.
