A thing I really love about Whoopi is her humility, and the fact that she never forgets who helped her on her way in her career. You see it in the way she talks about Mike Nichols, Stephen Spielberg, Billy Crystal, and Robin Williams, among others. She gives people their flowers. I love that.

Love Whoopi’s sense of humility. I had friends back in the day who said you MUST see this one woman show, I was immediately enthralled and not surprised by her Oscar win or other success.

Whoopi is big inspiration for us kids who made it out the nyc projects. When I used to complain about my living situation my mom would tell me to look at Whoopi and how she made it out.

Whoops was *extraordinary* in The Colour Purple, almost shockingly good. But of course my favourite will always be: "you in danger, girl" 😂 Magnificent as Oda Mae/Rita Miller hahaha!

The Color Purple (1985) The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Goldberg, Best Supporting Actress for both Avery and Winfrey, and Best Adapted Screenplay, but did not achieve a single win. It also received four Golden Globe Award nominations, with Goldberg winning Best Actress in a Drama.

Great Actress. She played Miss Celie and by the end of the movie she played an older and mature Miss Celie, impressive. And she was super funny and a scene stealer in Ghost.

My all time favorite movie is the Color Purple. Everything about it is magic, but especially Whoopie as Celie.

On Oscar night 1991 I stayed up all night in the UK to watch her with my fingers crossed. To win in competition against 4 other phenomenally talented nominees in the year’s groundbreaking movies - Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas), Mary McDonnell (Dances with Wolves), Diane Ladd (Wild at Heart) & Annette Bening (Grifters) must have been incredibly satisfying. It was one of the most well deserved wins in Oscar history, Whoopi. Those were the days.

Oscar Winner in 1991. Oscar Hosts in 1994, 1996, 1999, and 2002. Whoopi is a legendary talk show host and actress since her role in "The Color Purple" movie in 1985. : )
