Great shot of his thumb... I wonder what the gauges looked like during the start up.

@2008koss There is a separate turbine (called a "free turbine) that is turned by the exhaust gasses flowing past it. It is connected to the gearbox/reduction gears/rotor.
It is possible, therefore, to hold the blades stationary during the start (some helicopters do) then release the brake when desired. Hope that helps.

thank you for your reply, it clears up many questions i had from viewing various clips, (this sound of the turbine starting seems to have a very (positively) strange effect on me :-) . regards

Dangerous not suppressing that first horn, because your brain gets used to the horn and if something were to happen during the start and the horn changes, you might not even notice it.

I thought you had to "cover" the idle lock release to be ready to shut down on over temp?

DCS's Uh-1h bring me here. Nice :)

Jet rangers don't have a warning horn mute, you have to pull the breaker for the whole caution panel to disable it.

question: in helicopters, are the rotor blades coupled directly to the turbine shaft reducer ?

What is the power used to start the engine? Onboard compressed air? Or does it require a start cart?

I do agree with hillberg 100 for the sake! please silent the warning horn! it is too loud.
