"Is your camera on?": Tampa Police Chief Mary O’Connor asked a Pinellas County deputy before flashing her badge and announcing who she was during a traffic stop on Nov. 12. O'Connor and her husband were stopped after a deputy noticed their golf cart had no license plates. After a brief conversation, O'Connor and her husband were let go without a citation. "I'm hoping that you'll just let us go tonight," O'Connor said before offering the deputy her card if he "ever needs anything." Chief O'Connor was placed on administrative leave Thursday and officially submitted her resignation letter on Monday.

That deputy should be held accountable as well. He proved he is not willing to apply the law equally to all citizens.

Its not the first time she's done it just the first time she's been caught.

Sober or not, even the way the husband shut and handed the badge back to her shows he at least knows how wrong it is (and maybe how often it happens). Her resignation was the last chance to preserve dignity

Wow! Just because you're a police chief does not mean that you're above the law. Any normal person would have gotten a ticket. Our justice system is so screwed up sometimes.

The issue isn’t the tag, the issue is corruption. Clearly she needs to go.

She did that so quickly I strongly suspect the husband was drunk

“You ever need anything call me.”

Yup. That’s how it goes.

Why couldn't she just have accepted the golf cart violation. He probably would have left them off with a warning anyways. Instead she flashed her badge as if to suggest she's above the law. She should resign if she hasn't already.

How nice and civilized this whole misunderstanding was cleared. It just took the flash of a badge. What a polite society!!!

Two wrongs. Immediatge badge flashing and a "If you ever need anything, call me." Also, no appologies for being in the wrong, will immediately get it fixed, and it will never happen again. She is an embarrassment to the citizens of Tampa, the mayor, and those she supervises.

That smirk on her face tells it all. She's been getting away with stuff for years.
