I just ate the similar thing in Shenzhen, I bought 6 skewers of 烤面筋 from a food stall by the street, I asked for medium spicy, and I couldn't even finish one. It's Shenzhen, can you imagine a Cantonese city with spicy food like this? Btw I can eat very spicy food, at least half of 川渝 people will lose to me on spicy food competition.

I once tried a potato my Indian roommate had made. (He brought his spices directly from India to Canada and cooked exclusively with them.) Can I tell you, I never really thought a potato could be spicy like that thing, soaked as it was in chili oil 😅

I'm curious what the chile they use is. Typically Chinese spice isn't hot, it tends to be gentle and warm at most - even when my Chinese friends are like oh try this then you'll really get it (it's never even remotely close to mesoamerican spicy)
