What’s happening in this My Girl movie clip?
Vada (Anna Chlumsky from Veep) sees her stepmother (Jamie Lee Curtis from Halloween and Knives Out) putting on some makeup and asks her what she’s doing. Shelly explains to her and offers to put some lipstick on Vada. Vada then asks if Shelly thinks she’s pretty, and she agrees and describes everything that is beautiful about Vada. Shelly then puts some eyeshadow on Vada and tells her that you can never put too much eyeshadow. When Vada goes outside, her friend Thomas (Macaulay Culkin from Home Alone) is waiting for her and does not understand why she has makeup on. They go to the garage, where Vada analyses Thomas’s skull to see his personality. They end up finding a photo of Vada’s mother.

What’s the My Girl movie about?
Tomboy Vada Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky from Veep) has good reason to be morbid: her mother died giving birth to her, and her father (Dan Aykroyd from The Blue Brothers and Ghostbusters) operates a funeral service out of their home. The other kids think she's a freak, and it certainly doesn't help that her best friend, Thomas J. Sennett (Macaulay Culkin from Home Alone), is a boy. To make matters worse, Vada is desperately in love with her English teacher, Mr. Bixler (Griffin Dunne). What's an 11-year-old girl to do?

I never thought Shelley was a positive role model for Vada the way she always encouraged her to keep up her behavior as that of a spoiled kid who always felt like everyone else was supposed to think the same way she thought. In any case Vada never returned Shelley's care for her until after her only friend died at the end. In fact in the barbeque scene when Shelley's ex husband showed up wanting the motor home back Vada even admitted out loud that she had been hoping he had come to reinstate the marriage between Shelley and himself and take her away with him. Vada was so obnoxious and ultimately the little creep who had everything she didn't deserve when in fact she deserved nothing!
