I'm Arab my wife is Pakistani. Jazak Allah khair for your time and effort to educate avid learners. However, asalam alaikom isn't associated with Pakistan. It's associated with with Islam and Arabic. The phrase became embedded in Urdu as a result of Islam.

A catholic British 21 year old here, I started learning Hindi as I am doing my PhD research in India. Although I realised that most people who live near me, especially taxi drivers and corner shop owners, all speak Urdu. I’ve recently learnt a lot of Urdu and hope to visit Pakistan after India.

Urdu in its purest form is the most beautiful language. I understand about 30% only - and struggle with the rest 70% - but I love listening to people talking in Urdu.
