My baby is allergic to cow's milk. What are some healthy alternatives?

When a baby has a cow's milk allergy but still needs formula it can be very difficult to decide which formula is best for your baby. There are many different kinds on the shelf and many different alternatives to cow's milk but many of them are very expensive. Uptodate, a trusted evidence based database used by clinicians states that, "Extensively hydrolyzed formulas, or EHF, such as Alimentum, Nutramigen, and Pregestimil are recommended over other hypoallergenic formulas like soy." There are also other amino acid based formulas that can be used under certain circumstances but because all of these different types of formula are available they're manufactured for very specific needs. I would suggest talking to your pediatrician about which one would be best for your baby. Once your baby has turned one you can work with the pediatrician and the allergist to decide which alternatives to milk would be best for your baby at that point. If you have any other questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.
