This song is good and has been stuck in my head for the past couple weeks, so I’m gonna overanalyze it a bit:

As a the road sign for US Federal Highway Route 52 shows up at one point, we can determine that the road trip the song sort-of describes (I think) is happening along that route. Route 52 stretches from the US-Canada Border in North Dakota to Charleston South Carolina; as the clothing of the characters and the general vibe of the video leans warm and coastal, we can safely assume that the characters are traveling to or through Charleston and the surrounding area, thus the mention of a city skyline.

Exactly when is hard to determine, but the fashion shown puts the 1970s as the earliest point; the car shown would put that date more forward, towards the 1990s at minimum; I’m not much of a car or fashion nerd, but it looks like a Sports Car; cross referencing pictures of Chevrolet Corvettes (not because I think it looks like a corvette, just because those are what I’m familiar with), it sort of resembles the C6, putting the earliest date depicted as after 2006, with the events described probably happening sometime in the late 2000s early 2010s. It could easily be later though, as cars don’t stop existing when they stop being made, and I probably got the model wrong anyway. Could easily be earlier to, as noted I am not a car nerd.

So, to recap: the characters involved are driving a sports car along Route 52 to reach Charleston, South Carolina, in the US, sometime around the Great Recession.
