Trust me, it's fully possible to be bored with a smartphone.

Watching this on my phone, brushing teeth at the same time... while I'm late for work

Joe's response to people being bored is just "don't be bored, do something". That advice is the same as telling a depressed person "hey don't be depressed, be happy" I think the problem may be a little more complicated than they are just unaware that there are things they can do, just as a depressed person realizes it is better to be "happy" I spent years giving people the same simplistic advice until I realized I was one of the fortunate few with neither of those problems.

Lost my phone for 2 weeks and I was not sad . I was always doing something wether it was work or play . I was also able to see my friends and family in person more often. There is always something to do.

The only reason we all watch Joe's podcast is cause we're bored

A high phone usage can, as they roughly mentioned, distract from reality and truth, and in my eyes, this leads to high vulnerability and disorientation. In order to cope with that, people tend to go the easy way: distraction --> phone.
I dare to say that this could end up in a very dangerous circle.

"Boredom is the inability to pay attention to anything." 💯

No matter how new your smartphone is if Internet goes down it is as good as a brick.

When I get home from work, I feel like having plenty of time left, even if I go to the gym and play an hour on the guitar. The rest of the time I read or watch useful videos to improve myself or a good documentary or search new music but is that called mindless internet browsing?
The whole day I have people around me and I'm more than happy staying alone and see no one but myself. I don't even feel bored but like I wrote above: I spend a lot of time on my computer or phone.

Joe's answer to boredom reminds me of the shitty advice you get from people: "Just be yourself", "Just be confident man!". Yeah geez, thanks Joe!

thanks sam, thats what i was looking for, you're bored, but you're not because the boredom itself is something that you're doing. it's your experience, another experience, that is just an illusion of boredom that you are aware of because it's entertainment. i can put a little tick by that one, hell yeah.

Pretty much any time i have nothing to do - stuck somehwere waiting, riding a bus - i meditate or work on deep breathing. Or relax. Or write songs in my head. It's just 2nd-nature because i started practicing these things in the 90s and soon meditation became gospel.

People are very bored... you go out to eat, drink alcohol.. then what? Mingle go home and watch a couple of shows .. then bedtime. Arcades are honestly boring, amusement parks are overcrowded and hectic, nightclubs are not everyone’s style... people are boring in general even in Los Angeles. Besides overly drinking alcohol what is there to do?

I live in a very small town with maybe 2 friends. There’s absolutely nothing to do

That was painful watching that guy attempt to describe the Wall-E scene

Comparing work to hobbies seems odd to me. A hobby can take all of your time, but you don't and can't get the same fulfillment, joy, purpose. Hobbies are things that make you feel better, give you energy etc. Working is how you contribute to the world, other people, grow as a person ... I think saying that people just need guidance is kind of demeaning. It's not like you can't find something to do. You can always play video games for example and time will pass by. But I think that won't make you happy in the long run. Neither will learning the language, archery etc. in my opinion.

I think the guy in black T-shirt doesn't really get it. I think he is the type of person that thinks game addicts simply have too much time on their hands :). Have a nice day!
