okay first of all, golem armour has the strongest overall defence yes, but dragon armour is much easier to obtain as killing a single tier 3 dragon can give you a full set with weapons, and if your going for the sentient scythe which you definitely should, ignore golem armour and get maxed out silver armour as the immunity to negative effects is a godsend for the lost cities.
the sentient scythe is definitely incredibly good but farming parts for it can be difficult
maxed out dragonbone nunchaku is a good option, or you can use an ice dragonbone crossbow/bow with maxed enchants for range
when it comes to taking down amalagalich be very wary of when his eyes start glowing, he should start sucking you in and he will one shot you no matter your armour, and even if you have lots of totems it can still kill you with ease
killing amalgalich gives you arguably the best bauble in the game, boosting your attack strength and defense whenever you crit
also in order to get the enchants you need make a villager farm
you can play the game however you want these are just some things i personally use/recommend
