I knew a guy whose car shook like crazy with new tires. He noticed insanely large wheel weights on one wheel. He took it back, pointed it out. He was told that the wheel was "computer balanced". Noticing a bubble balance in the corner, he told them to put the wheel on the balance. The wheel immediately crashed to the floor. He got all four wheels bubble balanced and the car ran fine.

Electric vehicles may be fine in Europe, their countries are relatively small. We have states bigger than some of their countries. Electric vehicles don’t have the range to be effective here. I live in the mountains of NC. According to my calculations, I could get to town, but I couldn’t get home without recharging for several hours. Not effective. 👎

As a former tech for a Dealer and a chain store, my main skill was alignments and suspensions. Your car/truck would drive straight on the highway and on crowned roads after I got done with it. Been meaning to go back, but book time and limited time your employer wants things done, is what keeps me from doing the alignment properly and going back to a shop. It's old school turntables and a tow bar on a cement slab for now.

'99 Toyota has just a manual key, not even an immobilizer. I installed a power cutoff switch which cuts out just the ignition system. The "cutoff" is a hidden toggle down by the driver's seat adjustment controls where no one would expect it. Now I suppose a dedicated car thief could open the hood and run a wire to the coil from the battery, and then get under it to jump the solenoid, but who would want to go to those lengths to get their hands on a 21 year old car?

As you may have guessed, I'm not a proponent of rampant modernization just for the sake of modernization. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it. I had to explain that concept to my daughter when she ran in the ditch. "But Dad, the speed limit was still 55." My response was "Honey, that's a speed LIMIT, not a speed GOAL.".

Should I live so long that the only vehicles available are these mutations of real cars, I'll have to chain the axle to a tree just to sleep at night. There's a low tech solution for every high tech problem.

I think the white "smoke" is actually water vapour produced by the products of combustion passing through a cold exhorst system. More common as you first start the car in cold weather. Scotty. ..you are the best.
