Great information video. I sailed NCL Prima last Thanksgiving. Solo meet-ups were at 1700 each day. We played "icebreaker" games. If we wanted to eat dinner as a group, the host took a head count and made reservations that number for the following day. If we were interested in seeing a show together, he organized that. He also booked a time slot for us at the race track.
The solo lounge area was another plus on that ship. They put out snacks in the morning and evenings. We had coffee, tea, beer, and wine machines in the lounge, which was very convenient. I had walking all the way to the buffet area for my nightly tea or morning cappuccino.
I'll have to give Virgin a try.

Really good video - I was surprised how much I liked Virgin even at my age - 70. I did my own thing but still popped into the solo meet ups and yes dinners were arranged each night (Like you I’d booked my own reservations before the cruise). The hostess was fabulous (Milllie on Resilient Lady) I booked a sea terrace cabin so I could experience the famed hammock and OMG I loved it! Would definitely sail Virgin again

I’ve never sailed Virgin, but you’ve just sold me on giving it a whirl.

I loved this video! I'm taking my third solo cruise on Virgin in October! I had a lot of fun with their solo program. Plus no kids! The one thing I wish they would bring back is the Whatsapp where you could connect with solo travelers and see what people are doing around the ship at any time. I might try NCL I love the idea of a solo lounge and the solo cabins are bigger!

It was great meeting you on the Valiant Lady! I loved the solo cabin, lounge and activities on the NCL Viva in April. I'm still in touch with one from our group. I liked the standing nightly dinner reservation for the group. I haven't stayed in a solo cabin on VV yet but also enjoyed their solo activities on my last 3 sailings.

Loved this video! I had the pleasure of meeting you as a fellow solo cruiser on NCL, and I agree with everything you shared. It was wonderful connecting with the other solo cruisers, and I thoroughly enjoyed my solo balcony room. 🙂 I’ve cruised solo twice on Virgin and have enjoyed the meet up and dinner on the first night. I’m excited to know that they’ve expanded their solo cruiser program. I’m going again in a few months, so I’ll check out the new program and will report back. Lol!

I've done several solo cruises on NCL. I have my first on VV coming up next year...your video was very helpful on what to expect, thanks!

Thank you for the review :) I’ve never traveled solo anywhere but have been researching cruises and just came across the sub category of solo cruising and I think I’m already hooked.

Thanks for the comparison! I’m nearing retirement and have only been on one cruise in my life (Royal Caribbean 3-day Bahamas back in ‘93). My wife passed away last year. I am planning to get a Subaru Outback and a teardrop trailer and see the US and Canada for most of my traveling (saves money on transportation, food (I’ll have a fridge/freezer, so very few restaurants (maybe a couple “destination restaurants”), and hotels (since you can camp for much less, after the initial cost).

But, I think mixing in a cruise now and then might be nice. I’d be thinking of an Alaskan cruise, maybe an ocean crossing, maybe Mediterranean, it’s nice to have options. I’m an introvert and don’t mind hanging out alone, but it would be nice to meet others who are on their own without, as you say, being joined at the hip. I’m sure there are some interesting people to talk to.

Of the two you described, Virgin definitely sounds better, to me. But, I would really like a balcony room so I can sit out and read a nice book. I like the way they send different small groups to different restaurants, as it’s easier to talk to people in smaller groups (for me, at least). A lot of times, with large groups, they tend to get louder as it’s harder to hear what someone is saying. You’d already have a built in conversation starter, since you all picked the same restaurant.

Anyway, it helps to plan to do things. Thanks a lot for your help! You’ve got a new subscriber.

I am so glad that Virgin now has a solo cruise program. I really like the no-kids atmosphere of the ship. Norwegian seems more family oriented and that might be ok but if you're someone who prefers to avoid kids, Virgin sounds like the way to go

Nice to see that virgin has a solo cruiser program. I went on the Prima in April of 24 and it was great. The solo cruise director arranged for dinner every night, we did a scavenger hunt where teams were tied together with rubber bands, we decorated t-shirts to wear to the white party, he arranged for tickets to shows like the price is right, etc for free and one of the solo travelers even got picked and won a tv. All in all it was a great experience. I will have to try a virgin cruise!

I was supposed to be on an NCL cruise a couple of months ago, but I had to change my plans.
But I was looking forward to the solo meet and greet.
The one common denominator is that they ( the solo meets)were either hit or miss from people who've been on a lot of NCL cruises.

I may be surmising here, but it sounds like Virgin,
Being new with this program would be more consistent, and I would tend to lead towards them after your review.

Great job!

I did my research and plan on going virgin voyages. Thank for the insights looking forward to trying it out . Done a few family ones with Royal but VV sounds fun and interesting though it’s a small interior room pricing for one I wanted was 2400 but it was 2

Good chat. I think your point about an all adult vs mass market also applies on Utopia where for us, it really fell short of a total party vibe. Hard to achieve that with kids around
