Babies curl that way naturally in the womb. As a baby grows, their spine straightens out so I can more see it affecting them as they get older, but really we've all turned out ok and I know the majority of moms lift the legs. My son is now two and to clean him it is more natural on his body to turn to the side since his body doesn't curl up anymore. He doesn't appreciate having his spine lifted which indicates that he's grown out of the baby scrunch.
