For those watching and don’t know make sure you check online before going somewhere looking for gold, there are people out there that will kill your for taking minerals from their claims

expecting gold in slate. good luck. For everyone else, it most probably is pyrite (iron sulphide) which forms on a reducing environment, typical of slates with a good amount of organic matter / carbonaceous matter, like the ones you would expect from Silurian slates. Gold doesn't appear randomly inside a rock, even less on a slate wich is considered a fine size grained rock.

All that that means is that there's gold somewhere in that blob. It could be 99% Pyrite and 1% Gold.
