Swannington Level Crossing

Wednesday September 19 2018 at 18.36. No train. This is roughly halfway between Leicester and Derby although this line branches off south of Leicester and joins a north/south line at Burton on Trent a long way south of Derby. For many years this was the terminus of the Leicester and Swannington railway which mainly transported coal to Leicester. The station here closed in 1951. The line is now single track and gets very little use. Possibly just 5 trains a week.
