World's Largest Airplane That Can Launch Rockets into SPACE!

Stratolaunch, the world’s largest aircraft by wingspan, completed it's first flight on April 13, 2019. The airplane took off at 0658 PDT on April 13, 2019, from the Mojave Air & Space Port, and flew for 2.5 hours, achieving a maximum speed of 189 miles per hour and reaching altitudes of up to 17,000 feet.

Stratolaunch has dual fuselages, an all-composite design and has a wingspan greater than the length of an American football field

Stratolaunch describes its vessel as the "world's largest plane" but there are aircraft which are longer from nose to tail.

Stratolaunch is designed to act as a flying launch pad for satellites, it aims to make access to orbit more affordable and accessible, by launching satellites into space from the aircraft, rather than from the ground using rockets.

The idea is to fly the plane up to about 32,000 feet high, once at cruising altitude, the rocket's engines would ignite, carrying it and its satellite cargo the rest of the way into space, and then releasing the satellite into orbit.

The benefit of this system, is only a select few facilities, like the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, can handle rocket launches, which means tight competition for scheduling, and long wait times.

But airplanes can take off from almost any runway, which gives greater flexibility, and eventually, will allow for quick turnaround between launches, which Stratolaunch hopes will give it’s aircraft a competitive edge for those wishing to launch satellites into orbit.

Thanks for watching.

got to see this in person. my older cousin worked as an engineer there a couple years back. He told me a story that one day a cleaner was there to clean the top of the plane cause when they'd open up the doors for the hangar brids would get in and shit on the top of the wings etc... well the cleaner came by one day for a regular clean or something like that and he fell from the top, a good 30ish feet. he died on impact, they covered the area called ambulance had it taken care of an an hour later back to work. true story, anyone who worked there might remember.

Imagine the twisting moment on that centre span !!

The airplane so big it almost looks like two of 'em.

So there are pilots on both sides of the aircraft? It looks to easy for something to go wrong with double cockpits like that.

I want to know if you can get from one fuselage to the other during flight through a scary tunnel in the wing?

Now you can hit both tower with a single plane

I would comfortably live inside if it had a pathway to cross to the other plane😅😅

im sure that ginormous thing is gonna sit in storage or be scrapped soon

with as large as it is. i would have thought it would have been built similar to the P-38 Lightning with a joined tail section for stability. a better balancing/stabilizing system for more even landing etc.

Such a big plane! So sad that its put up for sale rather than forging ahead to launch satellites.

What if one pilot turns one fuselage one way and the other in the opposite direction, would the plane break in half?

Why didn't they connect the horizontal stabilizers

There was a similar company that put micro satéllites in orbit except that the rented a b-52 bomber and attach the rocket to one of its wings, much cheaper than building your own plane, that's what bankrupted the company, is always find the cheapest, most simple way to make your project, don't "reinvent the wheel"

the fact this thing is built of mostly 747 parts

does it have 2 pilots? and 2 copilots?

Except this isn't the largest plane in existence. It has the longest wingspan; but AN-225 has the larger body mass and a dedicated cargo bay.

Should be able to carry double the people on one flight right? Modify the design a bit.

Pretty silly having no customers lined up prior to completion.. one flight then up for sale.... so weird..
