Midas Monument (Yazılıkaya)

The Midas Monument, also known as Yazılıkaya, is the most magnificent example of Phrygian rock facades.

Located in the valley of Yazılıkaya, one of the valleys of the Phrygian Mountains in the Han district of Eskişehir, the monument was so named because of the word Midai in the Phrygian inscription on the flattened rock on the upper left side. The locals named the monument Yazılıkaya because of the inscriptions on it.

There are Phrygian inscriptions on the monument, which have not yet been fully translated, and it is believed to be a religious place where the Phrygians worshipped and sacrificed.
