In this video I talk about how I go about selecting my jigs for slow jigging. I discuss shapes, colors and how I use them for each situation and fish I target. I discuss how each of the jigs differ from one to the other, what to use for some species and how some factors affect the jigs, what people are doing wrong and what the solutions are.

I also talk about how I buy jigs, how I categorize and organize them. I introduce a very easy system for organizing jigs and using them, which jigs I drop first for what target I want and how to not buy too many jigs for what you think you need.

I also mention one of the biggest mistakes people do when they go slow jigging - and I recommend the solution to this issue as well. - this is an issue that isnt a problem in Asia , but is a very big problem for most people attempting to go slow jigging in the US.

Great video. What Japanese line do you recommend in the PE 0.8 range?

Thanks Kit, just the video I was looking for. Wish you did it months ago because I went out and bought 50+ jigs with various sizes and weight and haven't even caught one rock fish yet but at least I have 3-4 of each types and various weights. I use PE #0.8 (0.145mm, 25lbs) with 200g Medium profile at 200-300 ft depth, and I have a hard time staying vertical. I'll try going thinner line this year (PE 0.6 @ 0.128mm, and maybe even PE 0.4 @ 0.100mm) line to see if I can solve the heavy scope fishing in Southern California waters. What is the rule of thumb for weight? I heard 1g per foot of depth, but I also hear 1g per meter of depth. I know there is no 100% right answer, but what does your experience recommend?

Great info!I am going to Maldives this summer and bought a Saltiga 15hl planning on using it for lighter jigs from 80-160g, I was going to spool it 300m of pe4 because I thought I need stronger line since I am not deep dropping anyways, might as well get more strength. They have some monster groupers from 8kg to 35kg+(probably not caught in shallow water tho, not sure). Do you think I should go for 400m of pe3 or 300m of pe4? Thanks!

I had the same question as well. Like the other day itself, I went out and bought 20+ jigs in different weight and colors but same design(slow jig). For example I bought type x jig in 40g, 50g and 60g!!! Do you think it’s worth it?

I noticed the big argument about American braid breaking strain.
American line rated strength is knot strength, which is perfectly sensible.
20lb line when a hook is tied on with a Palomar knot will break at the knot around 20lb.
Who goes fishing without a hook or knot??
No one.
An FG knot will have more strength.
Japanese line will say 20 lb and break much lower.
I don't see any advantage in this system.
Braid is a recent invention with poor knot strength originally,
about 50%.
20lb mono knotted breaks around 80% of that 20lb.

What you fail to mention is that American braid label may say 6lb. test and may break at 20 pounds. Pe says 20-pound test and breaks at 20 pounds. Why the deception? Why not be transparent and say breaking strength of the line is more based upon the dimeter of the line, instead of what the label says? Do you want truth, look up the breaking strengths of the lines yourself. You may find American braids are much stronger according to their diameter than Pe lines. And don't get me started on the number of strands in the braid...American braids wipe the floor with Pe lines.
