A Weak Conscience Seared by Legalism - Ryan Fullerton

We tend to think about people searing their conscience when they go into sins: like lust, drunkenness and so on. However, in 1 Timothy 4 Paul’s concern is with them searing their conscience through legalism. People were forbidding marriage and eating of certain foods, and in doing so were searing their consciences. When you get a zeal for the Lord it is very easy for Satan to high jack that with a “do not taste, do not touch” mentality.

When we sin, the Devil puts the mirror of Law in front of us showing our flaws and urging us to be perfect but we are not good enough to be perfect that's why he condemns and accuses us. But our Father wants Himself be in front of us to tell us that He had everything done for Him in Christ and that there is no condemnation for those who are in Him. Amen!

The Law only accepts perfect obedience or you're dead. The Father has received perfect obedient through Christ and now delights in your growing imperfect obedience. The Law expects perfection and executes righteousness but the gospel says that perfection has been satisfied in Christ and now delights to see the flower of the new birth growing in the believer's life. Hallelujah! Praise God for this powerful message!
